Aparna Raj (Ward 1 Candidate) signs the Public Power Pledge

We Power DC is proud to announce DSA-endorsed Ward 1 candidate Aparna Raj has signed our Public Power Pledge. Raj is the second candidate behind Rep. Oye Owolewa (At-Large Candidate) to sign the Pledge in the 2026 cycle. Raj signed the pledge and spoke about her commitment to fighting a public power system in DC at a recent event

The Public Power Pledge is a commitment to WPDC’s Public Power Principles:

  • Lower utility bills and no shutoffs.

  • Investing in renewable energy generations and procurement.

  • Democratic multi-stakeholder governance through increased oversight, transparency, and community-control.

  • Good union jobs to ensure the DC public has access to stable, wealth-building employment.

Aparna Raj is a democratic socialist, union member, and the proud daughter of immigrants. She is running on a platform to bring stable housing, good public schools, union jobs, and strong public transit to Ward 1.
