Rep. Oye Owolewa (At-Large Candidate) signs the Public Power Pledge

We Power DC is proud to announce Rep. Oye Owolewa has signed our Public Power Pledge. Owolewa is the first candidate of the 2026 cycle to sign the Pledge, endorsing a future electric system that places the DC public above shareholder profit. The Public Power Pledge is a commitment to WPDC’s Public Power Principles:

  • Lower utility bills and no shutoffs.

  • Investing in renewable energy generation and procurement.

  • Democratic multi-stakeholder governance through increased oversight, transparency, and community-control.

  • Good union jobs to ensure the DC public has access to stable, wealth-building employment.

Rep. Owolewa is running on a platform to bring affordability to housing, schooling, healthcare, and utilities. His pledge to support DC residents over the interests of corporate utilities is in line with his people-first approach that he has brought to his role of ANC Commissioner and DC’s shadow representative.
