Utility debt improves but nearly a quarter of all DC residents remain indebted to Pepco - April 2026

As summer rates are already increasing in June, Pepco’s official April numbers paint a troubling story. Just under a quarter of all DC residents remain behind on their bills to Pepco, as 24% of DC brace for higher summer bills and requests from the monopoly utility to conserve energy. Meanwhile, 56% of low-income customers remain indebted to Pepco, inducing unnecessary suffering while heat and humidity increase for our city.

Years of rate hikes, renewable project delays, and solar interference has led to this: DC residents screwed over for the benefit of a monopoly corporation.
